About IUMN
The Islamic University of Minnesota (IUMN) was founded by a highly-qualified assembly of Muslim scholars and educators in the state of Minnesota. The IUMN was established out of their strong belief in the need for an educational institution to serve both Muslims and non-Muslims in the United States. It is estimated that there are about 150,000 Muslims in the state of Minnesota and more than 10 million in the U.S. The IUMN seeks to provide authentic Islamic education to anyone interested, whether from Minnesota or any other state.

The IUM will provide Muslim students (males and females) with the needed and sufficient Islamic knowledge enabling them to understand their religion. Concurrently, it will embrace students with interest in Islamic education among the larger (non-Muslim) community to get enough chance without prejudice, in the light of equal educational chances. This will be both in Arabic and English languages.

The IUMN provides Muslim students with the Islamic knowledge they need in order to fully understand their religion. At the same time, it welcomes students with an interest in Islam from among the larger non-Muslim community, and even offers them a chance to earn a degree in Islamic studies.

The IUMN is an independent institution that provides Islamic education through undergraduate and graduate programs (Master’s and PhD). One of our priorities at the University is to emphasize the importance of academic research in all our programs. Classes are held in both English and Arabic in order to provide multiple opportunities for students.

Lastly, the IUMN aspires to actively participate in the constructive upbringing of Muslim youth in America. By providing instructive opportunities for our youth, the University hopes to fulfill its responsibility in American society.

Our goals
1. Teach Islam through a proper methodology using genuine sources, (the Qur’an and the Sunnah, or traditions of the prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him,) along with evenhanded insight, neither excessive nor negligent. We acknowledge the real need to address and heal apparent rifts between religion and aspects of life in our society, to contribute to the welfare of all members of society.
2. Espouse objective education which encourages students to enter the realm of academic research, so that they may attain the essence of Islamic knowledge with a firm grounding in scientific methodology.

3. Provide an appropriate environment for productive discourse and the exchange of ideas and opinions through a methodology based on respecting differing opinions and points of view.

4. Prepare qualified graduates in various branches of Islamic knowledge to satisfy the needs of Islamic centers and schools, and the needs of American universities for specialists in the Arabic language and Islamic studies.

5. Reach out to non-Muslims within American society and contribute to their knowledge about the Islamic faith, to overcome obstacles encumbering cultural and intellectual harmony.

6. Build bridges of understanding, positive dialogue, and mutual respect between members of the Muslim community and society at large by working with cultural, religious and social institutions and participating in conventions, symposia, and seminars that reinforce this goal.
